Recruitment Process - ThoughtWorks US

At ThoughtWorks, we are looking for like-minded individuals who value hard work, creativity and have a passion for innovation and excellence. Our culture places great emphasis on teamwork, professional and personal development, and quality of life.

And so you've learned enough to feel you want to work at ThoughtWorks and think it's for you?

You've already seen the roles we're hiring for in The US .

You've worked hard on your resume, highlighting all the things you think we'll like and sent it along with a cover letter telling us what makes you special. You've done your part, now what can you expect from us?

What happens next
When we receive your resume it's processed and added to our internal system. From here it gets reviewed by one of our recruiting specialists. The hiring needs of ThoughtWorks are always changing and though your skills may not be immediately suitable, it may still be worth us talking to you about our future requirements.

If we like what we see in your resume and cover letter, we'd like to talk to you. The initial ThoughtWorks phone interview lasts about 45 minutes. This telephone conversation gives us a chance to gain a better understanding of what you're looking for in your next career move and also gives you chance to ask any questions you may have.

After we've spoken and had time to read through our notes on the conversation, assuming all is well, you are ready for the next stage. From here forward, the process is a bit different depending on which role for which you are applying.

Role specific tasks
If you apply as a Developer, you will be asked to give us an example of your code to show us what you are capable of doing. In order to ensure a level playing field for all our applicants, we have a number of coding problems from which you can choose. We find it a great way to let you demonstrate not only your technical skills but also your approach to coding in general. Your code will be reviewed by two ThoughtWorks developers and rated against a matrix, ensuring all code submissions are graded similarly and fairly.

The Phone Interview
Next, we'll arrange a peer phone interview to give you an opportunity to speak with a ThoughtWorker who holds the particular role for which you're applying. This phone interview will allow you to discuss the position in more detail and determine whether or not you are ready for the day to day activities of the position.

The Office Interviews
When you're invited into the ThoughtWorks office for a face to face interview, you'll meet with the recruiter with whom you've had your primary interactions so far. He or she will guide you through your day. During this visit to the office we'll ask you to complete some tests. Don't Panic! We use these tests as additional data points in the whole process and we find they give us insight that we would otherwise not get. You'll then get some face-time with ThoughtWorkers. During these series of interviews, we'll be guaging your technical abilities, communication skills and overall fit for the culture of the organisation.

Next steps
With the interviews, coding tests to consider, we will take the opportunity to draw all this together to be sure we arrive at the best decision. It could be that at this stage we - either us or you - still feel that the time is not quite right for you to join us. Even if that is the case it doesn't mean our paths won't cross again in the future. Some of the most influential ThoughtWorkers applied to join us two or three times before they were finally offered!

And finally
If all is well through the process, we will proceed to an offer letter and collect your references. Welcome to ThoughtWorks!
