ThoughtWorks Studios releases new Ruby-in-enterprise effort, RubyWorks

RAILSCONF 2007, PORTLAND, OR—May 18, 2007—ThoughtWorks has announced a new product initiative for Ruby in the enterprise called RubyWorks. RubyWorks includes a selection of supported developer tools, application stacks, environmental tools, frameworks and libraries meant to help increase Ruby adoption in the enterprise.

RubyWorks is launching with a free open source LAMP production stack for RedHat Enterprise Edition and CentOS, and will allow users to quickly put Rails applications on production servers. ThoughtWorks will also offer paid, 24x7 support for the stack beginning in mid-July.

RubyWorks is also supporting JRuby, which allows Ruby developers to use existing Java libraries and deployment infrastructure. JRuby provides an exciting opportunity for companies with existing Java infrastructures to leverage their investment while creating Ruby-based applications. RubyWorks will offer paid support services to help companies implement and troubleshoot JRuby applications beginning in mid-July as well.

More than forty percent of ThoughtWorks' new consulting projects in the [U.S] are now developed using Ruby on Rails. "It's an exciting opportunity for ThoughtWorks to help not only our consulting clients deploy Ruby on Rails applications, but also the wider community as well," said Chad Wathington, Vice President of Product Management for ThoughtWorks Studios.
